CBD Oil vs. Hemp Seed Oil

As CBD oil continues to trend in the health and beauty sector, many people notice that some products say CBD while others say, Hemp.

Both oils come from the Cannabis Sativa plant, can be produced in various forms, and are taken in multiple ways.

So, what’s the difference?

Before we get into how the two are different, let’s explain what each is separate.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD oil can be produced from either the hemp or marijuana variety of the cannabis plant.

It is extracted from the flower, leaves, and stems of the plant but not the seeds.

CBD oil is made to contain the compound CBD and is typically aimed at treating medical conditions.

There are different types of CBD Oil

  • full-spectrum CBD oil
  • broad-spectrum CBD oil
  • CBD oil made using CBD isolate

Because CBD and CBD oil does not contain THC, it will not get you high and is legal in almost every state in the US.

What are the benefits of CBD Oil?

CBD oil can help with the following conditions:

  • addiction management
  • anxiety and depression
  • epileptic seizures
  • inflammatory skin conditions
  • insomnia
  • neurodegenerative conditions
  • pain and inflammation

Research suggests that CBD-derived products are safe but do have limited side effects:

  • Tiredness or fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Nausea
  • Changes in appetite or weight
  • Dry mouth
  • Low blood pressure

The biggest concern with using CBD oil is that it can interact with certain medications, causing your body to absorb more concentrated doses and leading to liver damage. The types of medicines that may interact with CBD include but are not limited to:

  • Antihistamines
  • Benzodiazepines
  • PDE5 Inhibitors
  • Beta-Blockers
  • Antipsychotics
  • SSRIs and Tricyclic Antidepressants

Best practices when it comes to safety:

  • Consult with your doctor about CBD—they will inform you if it interacts with any of your current drugs.
  • CBD is unregulated (with one exception), meaning consumers need to investigate each product actively. Carefully research each brand and ensure the product is lab certified.
  • Monitor your results very closely and be transparent with your healthcare team.

There is a lack of regulation when it comes to CBD/Hemp products. Therefore, it’s hard to know the actual level of CBD in any product or what the natural ingredients are.

Please do your research, go to a trusted source, and ask for the Certificate of Analysis (COA) to ensure that your CBD oil contains the ingredients it says it does at the level it states.

What is Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil comes from the seeds of the hemp plant. They are cold-pressed and then usually added to food, salads, and drinks. Hemp seed oil is thought to have similar nutritional value to sunflower oil.

Because the seeds do not naturally contain THC or CBD, hemp seed oil contains neither of these compounds. However, they do have omega-three fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.

What are the Benefits of Hemp Seed Oil?

Hemp seed oil is high in antioxidants, amino acids, and omega fatty acids. These Omega 3 compounds are known to support a healthy heart and a robust immune system.

It also contains Omega 6, which can help with strong hair and nails and a more youthful look to the skin.

Because of its nutty aroma, the hemp seed oil is often used in foods like salad dressings and drinks. However, since the oil does not handle heat well, it is best to use cold or at room temperature.

Hemp seed oil can have the following health benefits:

  • improve gastrointestinal conditions
  • improve skin conditions
  • modify the immune system
  • provide cardiovascular health benefits
  • relieve constipation

When buying hemp seed oil, make sure the label clearly states what ingredients are listed and any mg amount relevant.

As well as having the ingredients listed, your hemp oil product should state how it was extracted on the label or on their website and carry a Certificate of Analysis (CoA). A CoA verifies the content of all the compounds in the product.

What is the difference between CBD Oil and Hemp Seed Oil?

The most significant difference between the two is that CBD oil contains CBD while Hemp Seed Oil has very little to none. How is this done?

Cannabinoids, terpenes, and other active compounds in the hemp plant are found in the resin of its flowers which is how you obtain CBD oil.

Hemp seed oil is created from the hemp plant’s seeds, and the seeds do not contain those cannabinoids, terpenes, and other active compounds.

CBD oil is extracted using a solvent-based method and is suspended in a carrier oil.

Hemp seed oil is made by cold-pressing the seeds to separate the oil and is similar to how olive oil is made.

CBD oil is mainly used to help treat medical conditions

Hemp seed oil is used as a source of vital nutrients.

CBD oil has the potential to improve the overall well-being of an individual.

Hemp seed oil’s benefits are more geared toward improving a person’s hair, skin, and nails.

CBD oil can be found in various forms like tinctures, capsules, edibles, and topicals.

Hemp seed oil is usually only found mixed in food and drinks or added in a topical base.

In conclusion, while there are differences between CBD oil and Hemp seed oil, both contain ingredients that can significantly improve a person’s overall health and appearance.
